Day 6

Today we arrived in Oklahoma driving a two lane road instead of the interstate to get there. We very much enjoy seeing the small towns to get a feel for the area.

In the past families tended to stay in the same area living, working and going to school with grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins even the most removed. Now with how we live in our mobile and busy world we may never know even our closest relatives and meeting with distant family members is an opportunity many never get. I have first cousins that live in my area and I may not see them but every 3 or 4 years and never seeing their children. It is funny I am meeting people that live hundreds of miles from my home but do not see the people in my own backyard. If my mom had not gotten interested in tracing the family and sharing that passion with me I never would have gotten to know many relatives and very kind people. Today we met with Al (Al and I are 3rd cousins 2X removed) and Kristi (great name and perfect spelling). We had lunch and then they invited us to their home. They took us to the local Hennessey and Bison cemeteries where I took many pictures and then they cook dinner for us. Sharing many stories, information and photos of family. We thank them for their generous hospitality. The original brothers, Matej and Joseph Vculek came from Czechoslovak bond us together. Both men died in Saunders County Nebraska. Their sons Charles (Matej) and Joseph P. (Joseph) moved in different direction across the United States so it has taken some time to put us all together. The best way I find to put us all together is help from many people. Not one person made this family and it will take many to piece it all together. I thank everyone who has and is willing to share what they know.

Family, like branches on a tree we may grow in different directions yet our roots remain as one.
