Day 10

We now are in Monticello Arkansas visiting the town where Roy grew up. We left Duncanville Tuesday morning and drove about 6 hours. Before arriving in Monticello we stop in the small town of Thornton Arkansas. The reason for our stop there is to leave off a donation of clothing and toiletries we brought with us. Cayce Charities serves many people in the rural area of Southeast Arkansas. You are sitting at your computer reading this blog which means you have the income to purchase the computer, have electricity to turn it on and the income to pay for the internet. Many of the people in this area of Arkansas cannot read or write and many of the children cannot go to school because they do not have shoes. Meaning the cycle continues of being unable to read and write and …… How sad when our country spends millions of dollars to pay people to get new cars when think of what those monies would do to help the poorest of the poor to have a better life. The ladies that run the charity were very warm and thankful for our small donation. We cleaned out our closets for good clothing we no longer need and I went through my mother-in-laws clothing that are still in boxes from when she passed away. Now they will all be able to go to a good cause and that would make my mother-in-law very happy.

Then off to Monticello to meet Carolyn Roy’s high school friend. She welcomed us warmly in her home and also fed us pizza and chocolate cheesecake. WOW Wednesday Roy will be meeting with a local reporter to tell his story about growing up in the local orphanage and how he felt while living there. If you are curious he thinks it was a very good life for him. We will be spending two nights here to see the area and Roy to reconnect with more of his past friends.

Rain Rain and more Rain. It seems to rain more down here than it does in Washington State. In Washington it may rain many days but not the amount it does here in a short time. It pours … and is hot at the same time. The humidly is baaaaaaad. OK, the people here are use to it, not sure I could ever get use to. Sorry I am whining I will stop. We are having a great time and enjoying see new places. Hope we will not float away without my boat. (Sorry no more whining)
