Today is day 5 and I have to say we are tried from the long days we have been putting in. It was just the best plan to get out here so we had more days to meet with people and see things. We all are looking forward to less time in the car and maybe not so late nights the next couple weeks. We have gone from Santa Fe New Mexico to Amarillo Texas today. We decided to stop in Amarillo for a shorter day instead of driving another 3 hours. The landscape has made quite a change. From the rock formations and high desert of New Mexico to the flat grasslands of Texas. We have been driving on the historic Route 66. Decided to go through the town of Tucumcari New Mexico to see what still may be there. What a very sad sight, businesses and building are boarded up and falling down. If you look past the dilapidated area you can see what it may have looked like at its peak with people traveling in their cars some with pull behind trailers, staying at local motels or in the camp ground. Stopping for lunch at the local restaurant and walking up and down the streets. Sorry to say all that is gone and the skeleton of the former town is what is left. We hardly saw any people or other cars. I guess that is progress????????

Have you heard of the Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo Texas? I had heard of it but never thought I would really see it. There it was alongside the road we were traveling so we pulled off. When we arrived there were a number of people down by it doing their own “art work” on them. Mind you this is encouraged. A man buried Cadillac’s nose down on his farm. What a sight. To see more about it you can find it at

Tomorrow will be a big day of our first meeting of Vculek family in Oklahoma. I so appreciate people for being willing to meet with us and share what they know about the family. I will share what I find out and photos as we go.
Off to bed I go for an early start of our day. Goodnight
This is timely. http://wondermark.com/551/
